Teeth are extremely resilient and hardwearing, but in some cases a damaged tooth may warrant extraction, in the interests of your dental and general health.

We may also consider an extraction in cases where wisdom teeth have become problematic or to allow for orthodontic treatment. We understand that the idea of having a tooth extracted might seem worrying – our friendly team is here to make you feel at ease and during your appointment.

Here are a few reasons why you might require an extraction:

•  A tooth has become damaged to a degree where a restoration is not suitable.
• A wisdom tooth has become impacted.
•  Severe tooth decay and cavities.
•  Periodontitis (severe gum disease).
• To make room that will allow for orthodontic treatment.

Extractions are performed under local anaesthetic and generally take between 20-40 minutes to complete. A very fine needle is used to numb the area and we will then carefully remove the tooth. We’ll take you through the correct aftercare to follow during your recovery period at home.
